Middlesborough Council
Bringing employee teams together in a collaborative manner, locating likeminded teams in agile neighbourhoods was key to the project’s success. Aesthetically, the design was to be warm and welcoming, which encompasses the council’s core values, whilst also projecting a premium, hospitality-like impression. Team members are all encouraged to work in the open plan to avoid a ‘them and us’ hierarchy.
The project was staff focused and looked to provide flexibility by providing work setting options adjacent to each other to provide staff choice dependent on personal preference as well as to best suit their current task. Each wing of the councils building incorporated a mix of Orangebox furniture including Coze stools, Breaker high tables, Calder and Workday meeting chairs.
By repurposing an existing building the project aspired to be as environmentally responsible as possible. This was exemplified further as legacy furniture was used where appropriate and even included locally sourced reupholstery.
